Adoption requires contacting us, filling out an application, finding the right dog for you, a home inspection and an adoption fee. Our adoption fee for all adult dogs is $400. (Puppies are $450.) This fee includes:
- All dogs, unless noted otherwise, are spayed and neutered.
- Microchipping and initial registration of the microchip (you only need to re-register if you move)
- Current on vaccines
- Copy of any bloodwork, fecal or other testing we may have done. Note that we do not routinely do testing on all dogs, but if we have results, we are happy to provide info to you!
The additional expenses you can expect initially are:
- Exam by your vet in the first two weeks
- Licensing in your local municipality
- Collar, leash, ID tags, food and any other toys/treats/beds you choose to supply.
- (Optional) Pet Insurance
We rescue and adopt in California, Southern Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Idaho, Oregon & Washington. If you are in a neighboring state and willing to travel personally pick up one of our dogs (locations are listed on their bios), we *may* be able to accommodate you - depending on the situation. We do not ship dogs outside our adoption areas.

As you probably know, pet overpopulation is a serious problem that results in millions of unnecessary pet deaths every year. We hope that each of our adopted pets can live out the rest of their natural lives in adoptive homes with dedicated owners, which is why we ask that you complete the following information. This helps us to best match a pet with a new home and hopefully prevent the pet from ever re-entering the shelter system.
Please take a few moments to fill out this form, and give us some information about yourself and the type of pet you would like to make a part of your family, and then return it to us via fax or email. All information requested is helpful in matching prospective homes with the right pet, so please answer everything fully and honestly. Upon receipt of your request, we will try to get back to you as quickly as possible, but if you do not receive acknowledgement within 48 hours, please email us or call us to be sure we received your information.

All adoptions are subject to acceptance based on a review process that requires collecting information from references and visiting the applicant's home. Decisions on placing pets in adoptive and foster homes are based solely on the judgment of our volunteers and coordinators, and adoption applications may be denied for various reasons. We reserve the right to refuse to adopt to anyone, and to make all decisions regarding placement or final disposition of any rescued pet in its care whether in, or being placed in, a foster or adoptive home or other facility. In addition, some pets posted on or through our partner website are under the control of other shelters or rescue groups, and Pei People has no control over how these pets are placed.
